Definition of  infertility

A couple can say that they have an infertility problem after they try to conceive for an year without a result. Lots of women panic if they can conceive after only three month of trying. If the infertility problem can’t be resolved with treatment then it is also called sterility. A woman who can get pregnant but has repeated miscarriages is also considered infertile.

 Pregnancy is not as simple as many would think. The process of getting  pregnant consist in the following steps:

- the first step is the ovulation – the woman releases an egg from the ovary;

- then the egg goes through the fallopian tube to the uterus;

- a sperm from a man must fertilize the egg on the way;

- the last step is the implantation meaning that the egg which has been fertilized attaches to the uterus’s wall.

If a problem occurs during any of those steps it may cause an infertility issue.

    Many women confront themselves with infertility problems. Studies show that in the  United States of America 12% of  women had problems getting pregnant or delivering the baby.

   It is often believed that women are responsible for the incapability of a couple to conceive. That’s not necessarily true because even though women present more risk factors of infertility than man do in many cases men are the cause for the infertility problem. It has been shown that one third of infertility cases is caused by a male factor, another third by a female factor and the last third is caused by both parts or inexplicable factors.

    After trying to conceive for a whole year and no result is obtained the couple should consider a professional examination which includes a series of tests like semen and ovulation tests, pregnancy and menstrual history, laparoscopy and others. This tests will determinate the cause of infertility. Sometimes it’s advisable for women in their 30’s to seek professional help if they are trying to conceive for six month without any positive result because the chances of getting pregnant diminish pretty quickly after that age.

   In some cases women can’t conceive also due to some health problems like: painful or irregular periods, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, miscarriages and other risk factors.

   All in all, the best thing you could do when you are trying to get pregnant is to address to a doctor who can advise you how to get pregnant and how to prepare your body in order to deliver a healthy child.
